Behavioral Health Therapist - Portage County

Red Oak Behavioral Health - Akron, OH

Looking for a school-based therapist to work in Portage County. This is an exciting opportunity for a therapist to work with an existing caseload, but also a chance to develop the school based program within the school districts.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Interviews potential clients to assess the need for direct mental health treatment of mental and emotional disorders or referral elsewhere;
  • Provides comprehensive medically necessary and psychotherapeutic services for individuals or members of a family to assist them in achieving productive social adjustments, reducing the impact of disabling disorders, and facilitating their achievement of living, vocational, recreational, and interpersonal goals through the modalities of individual, family, group counseling and through collateral/significant other contacts;
  • Diagnostically assess, formulate and complete the client’s Individual Service Plan (ISP) inclusive of diagnosis, goals, and appropriate signatures
  • Shares and receives appropriate information with the teachers, guidance counselors and administrative staff to assist in a collaborative effort with clients in the assigned buildings. Educates clients and their families regarding their diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, and therapeutic process;
  • Works cooperatively with teachers, guidance counselors, and administrative staff within their assigned buildings including, but not limited to, relaying appropriate information to and from school facilities, assessing needs of additional staff, and coordinating services within the building;
  • Identifies, recommends, networks and/or utilizes community resources to facilitate the highest possible mental health and addiction functioning of all assigned clients as needed;
  • Involvement in home visits may be necessary to assure continuity of clinical care.
  • Participates in quality assurance and program evaluation studies as needed;
  • Attends and participates in scheduled or required training, staff meetings, peer review, workshops and supervision.



  • Master’s Degree from an accredited University or College in the field of Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy or Social Work.
  • Licensed in the State of Ohio to provide mental health services (PC, LSW, MFT, PCC, LISW)
  • Demonstrated experience in the treatment of children, adolescents, adults and families individually and in group modality.
  • Ability to problem solve complex and possible crisis mental health client problems.
  • Ability to develop and write clear, concise documents involving client outcome reporting requirements. Strong time management and interviewing skills and an ability to work with autonomy.

  • Possession of a valid Ohio driver’s license.
