Legislative & Advocacy Alert

The Ohio General Assembly has adjourned until after the November election, and members are in their home districts campaigning, meeting with constituents, and discussing state and local issues – now is the time to reach out and advocate for your interests!

When contacting your local lawmaker, we encourage you to invite them for a tour and briefing about your organization; share information about your services, discuss your successes and challenges, and offer yourself as a resource. Developing and strengthening your relationship with an elected official will benefit our collective advocacy efforts and strategies in the future.

Here are some specific advocacy points you can share during any conversation or meeting:

  • Express urgency and critical need for the $85 million ARPA-HCBS behavioral health. workforce proposal and urge it be appropriated through the Controlling Board as soon as possible.
  • Express support for OhioMHAS’ Section 340 Workgroup and request that it be allowed to conclude its work and issue a report and  recommendations. This process offers a transparent, public process inclusive of individuals with lived experience, families and all stakeholders involved. Legislation, including HB 523, should be informed by recommendations from this workgroup.
