Medicaid School Program Expanded – Includes More BH Services
The Ohio Department of Medicaid (ODM) announced updates to the Medicaid School Program (MSP). MSP is a partnership between ODM and the Department of Education and Workforce. The Medicaid School Program (MSP) allows local educational agencies (LEAs), community schools, and state schools for the blind and deaf to seek reimbursement for Medicaid eligible services provided to students who have services documented in a plan of care. With the recent update, ODM is assuming responsibility for managing the program instead of DEW. Beginning January 1, 2026, the Medicaid School Program will include:
- A School Services Plan of Care as documentation of medical necessity for MSP services – expanding access to MSP services beyond youth with an IEP.
- An updated benefits package that includes additional nursing and behavioral health services (TBS, SBIRT, and Tobacco screening and cessation) and BH provider types.
- Reimbursement for screening services provided to students enrolled in Medicaid.
