Medicare Open Enrollment: Oct 15th – Dec 7th

The annual Medicare Open Enrollment period began October 15, 2024, and ends December 7, 2024, with coverage changes taking effect January 1, 2025. During this time, people with Medicare can compare coverage options, like Traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage, choose health and drug plans for 2025, and learn about extra help available to those with limited income and resources to pay for Medicare drug coverage.

Individuals eligible for Medicare can compare plans and coverage by visiting Medicare.gov.  This one-stop website allows covered individuals enter information about providers they frequently use, medications, and see other local services that might be available using their self service tool.  There are also videos and informational resources to help enrollees understand changes for the upcoming year.  One noticeable new change for 2025 is that Part D out-of-pocket costs for covered drugs are capped at $2,000.

Ohioans who would benefit from guidance and support during the Medicare enrollment process can contact the Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP). During their existence, OSHIIP has counseled more than 435,000 people and saved Ohio consumers more than $32 million providing guidance and support to individuals enrolled in Medicare.
