NACCHO & Legal Action Center Release Equity Considerations for Local Health Departments on Opioid Settlement Funds Checklist

The Legal Action Center, with the support of the National Association of County & City Health Officials (NACCHO) has released the Equity Considerations for Local Health Departments on Opioid Settlement Funds Checklist. This resource aims to guide health officials through decision-making for the allocation and distribution of opioid settlement funds, highlighting health equity principles such as community engagement, oversight and accountability, and cultural humility.

The goal of the checklist is to support Local Health Departments (LHDs) to ensure that health officials are knowledgeable about opioid settlement funds and how to best utilize the funds to address the needs of people with substance use disorders, prevent overdose, and advance health equity in their communities. Additionally, the checklist can be utilized as a helpful tool for providers who might be seeking to create or expand programs to promote health and wellness for people who use drugs, to increase efficacy and likelihood of receiving funding.
