Ohio Department of Insurance MHIA Office
The Ohio Department of Insurance’s new office of Mental Health Insurance Assistance (MHIA) conducted a webinar last month introducing the office, its goals and services. The slides from the webinar are available and cover the consumer complaint and appeal processes. The webinar also explained that MHIA will be partnering with RecoveryOhio, OhioMHAS, Medicaid, DAS and the Department of Labor to assist Ohioans, and their providers, experiencing insurance challenges related to accessing MH/SUD treatment and services.
Importantly, anyone can contact the ODI MHIA office to ask questions or report complaints related to insurance coverage of behavioral health services. ODI is a complaint driven department, so providers are encouraged to report problems in order for ODI to further investigate issues. Anonymous complaints or questions can also be submitted directly to the ODI Ombudsman at [email protected] and ODI mental health insurance experts are available at [email protected].
