Ohio Legislative Update

Ohio lawmakers returned to the statehouse from the November general election to finish their work and close out the 135th GA. Both chambers are getting into the lame-duck spirit, with several committee hearings, and numerous amendments being considered during this two-week sprint to the end. Ohio Council staff are monitoring this process and engaging lawmakers and staff on issues of importance to the community behavioral health system. Below is a list of proposed bills that the Ohio Council is currently tracking:

PARENTAL NOTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS (SWEARINGEN D, CARRUTHERS S) To enact the "Parents' Bill of Rights" to require public schools to adopt a policy on parental notification on student health and well-being, including gender identification. Senate President Huffman expressed interest in passing this bill during lame-duck session.
